Tar-ra (Dawes Point Park)

Tar-ra (aka Dawes Point Park) is a historical park at the northern tip of The Rocks with unparalleled views across Sydney Cove. Dawes Point was the site of Australia’s first fortified position, constructed in 1788 to protect the cove from foreign invaders. The fort was removed during construction of Sydney Harbour Bridge which now passes above the park. The park is named after Lieutenant William Dawes, an astronomer who constructed an observatory on the site in 1788.

GETTING THERE

Please note the sound installation is located at the rose trellis on the western side of Dawes Point Park, on the hill close to the pylon. If you notice the sound installation is not working, please call Sydney Festival on 8248 6500.

Train: The closest train station is Circular Quay, a12 minute walk to Dawes Point Park.

Bus: The following bus routes stop at Alfred St, Circular Quay (Stand D) – 301, 302, 303, 373, 374, 377, 500, 507, 515, 518, 520, M52 & X03.

Ferry: Circular Quay Wharf is located 12 minutes’ walk from Dawes Point Park.

Taxi/Drop off: There is a taxi rank directly in front of the park on George St.
