It’s all about the voice with Norwegian singer Ane Brun. Sure, there are also her exquisite songs, which run from melancholy and jazzy right through to playful, sunny pop and of course her wicked dance moves (check the whip-smart choreography in the video to her recent single ‘Directions’). But it’s Brun’s crystal clear, sweet, powerful voice that takes your breath away. It’s one that can be best described as an angelic mixture of Billie Holliday, Beth Gibbons, Ella Fitzgerald and Dolly Parton.
Along with her award-winning original compositions, Brun simultaneously breathes new life into songs like ‘Halo’ by Beyonce and ‘Neighborhood #1’ by Arcade Fire. Little wonder Peter Gabriel personally chose Brun to join him on his New Blood Tour, where she not only opened the shows but also joined his band, most notably adopting the role of Kate Bush for ‘Don’t Give Up’.
More recently, she was Vince Clarke’s go-to vocalist for a reworking of Depeche Mode’s ‘Fly on the Windscreen’ which was followed by Brun’s house music diva moment on last year’s UK Top 5 hit ‘Can't Stop Playing (Makes Me High)’.
Performing solo amidst a transforming visual backdrop, Brun will draw from her seven studio albums, including her most recent release, the perfectly titled When I’m Free.
