Grandly intimate, honeyed and haunting, this award-winning ensemble brings to life a rich and rarely-heard choral tradition from a tiny strip of land along the Adriatic.
The project pairs four women from medieval vocal ensemble Dialogos with Kantaduri, a group of six Croatian cantors. Together they have reinvigorated a sublime subcategory of sacred music with a unique history. Drawn from rare Latin manuscripts and traditional songs, the selection reveals the depth and richness of the culture created where Byzantine, Roman Catholic, Slavic and more ancient traditions meet and intermingle. Haunting chants and mysterious harmonies are stitched together by specialist performers with a clarity and precision that underscores the rich, rounded warmth of the resulting sound. A fascinating, atmospheric and profound journey through the liturgical year.
