In the world premiere season of the sister work to Cry Jailolo, five young female dancers from a remote community in Eastern Indonesia, use rhythmic movement patterns to carve out space amidst the noise of the duties of their daily lives.
Founded on the Pencak Silat philosophy of the nine directions (Indonesian martial arts), hierarchies of culture and gender give way to the strength of the dancers as they showcase the multiple roles of women in Indonesia. Balabala is a powerful new contemporary dance work choreographed by Eko Supriyanto.
