A melding of traditional dance from Eastern Indonesia with contemporary impulses, Cry Jailolo gives voice to a remote coastal community facing the destruction of their coral reefs, in a hypnotic, compelling and graceful work.
Created by internationally renowned choreographer Eko Supriyanto - whose credits run from Peter Sellar’s Le Grand Macabre and John Adam’s Flowering Tree toThe Lion King on Broadway – the Cry Jailolo dancers sweep the stage to the rhythmic beats of their bare feet, with moves inspired by fisherman and coconut trees swaying in the wind and the sea.
