In 2015 award-winning Aussie comic Felicity Ward, as seen on Live at the BBC and her own ABC documentary Felicity’s Mental Mission, wrote a show about mental illness and her bumhole. Much to her surprise, more people saw it than her immediate family and a guy called Gavin. At the 2015 Edinburgh Festival Fringe it was the third-best reviewed comedy show.
Always one to flog a dead horse, she has written another show about mental illness. 50% More Likely To Die is a garishly colourful tapestry of pin-sharp comic observations, thoughtful discussion around mental health and some euphoric squawking that's beautifully woven together.
In her endearingly livewire style, Ward talks about her anxiety without being earnest. Delight in the wonders of her latest invention ‘Chicken Karaoke’, laugh at the correct etiquette of swimming pools and gasp at the indignity of women’s pockets in a killer performance that will have the audience snorting with laughter.
There is an Auslan interpreted performance on 22 January at 7.30pm.
Note: Meriton Festival Village is a licensed venue. Under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
