Breakout Americana artist Dori Freeman performs in her Australian premiere, following the release of her debut self-titled album which is deeply rooted in the musical traditions of her family and home in native Virginia.
Dori Freeman has the perfect country voice. Languid and pure-toned but with a little Appalachian dust on it, Freeman’s storytelling soaks up wisdom from the decades prior to this 25-year-olds birth. Her songs hit you like a train; stunningly gorgeous, lyrically rich and thoughtfully executed. Critically acclaimed, she has not only been labelled by Rolling Stone as one of the ‘10 New Country Artists You Need To Know in 2016’ but has also garnered praise from the likes of NPR and The New York Times.
With this distinctive sound, Dori Freeman is a singer/songwriter that Americana has been long awaiting. Freeman’s bittersweet and clear-eyed storytelling is made to be heard in a space like St Stephen’s – one that’s all old stone and warm wood.
